“Which of you being anxious can add a single cubit to his life’s span? If then you cannot do even a very little thing, why are you anxious about other matters? Consider the lilies, how they grow, they neither toil nor spin but I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory did not clothe himself like one of these.”
- Matthew 6:27-29
What’s the first thing you think about when you hear the word “balance”? Do you imagine a gymnast on the balance beam or a circus performer walking across a tightrope? Maybe you remember trying to balance equations in a mathematical problem. Learning to ride a bike may have been your first lesson in understanding balance. Isaiah 40:12 says the Lord weighed the mountains is a balance!
Have you ever struggled to balance the commitments you’ve made or find time for everything there is to do? Have you ever felt stretched to the limit and overwhelmed? Out of sync? Consumed with demands on your life? Jesus said, “If then you cannot do even a very little thing, why are you anxious about other matters?” God will take care of us no matter what comes into our lives. When we feel frazzled and seem to be running in all directions, God is our guide and “balance keeper.”
Whether you stay at home or work in the corporate world, you may be challenged with finding balance in your life. It is easy to get disillusioned in today’s fast-paced society trying to accomplish all the things that we feel are required of us. Maybe you are caught up with the Mary/Martha syndrome. Even though Martha was doing a good thing, Mary chose the best thing… sitting at Jesus’ feet (Luke 10:38-42). The only way we can choose the best in all things is to remain in Him. We don’t have any excuse not to do so, especially if we realize that our priority and calling is to honor Him in everything.
Will you choose to approach your Heavenly Father in submission to His wise will and honor Him is all you do? Remember He is your all sufficient Lord, El Shaddai, and He will help you keep a perfect balance in your life.
