“Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life.”
-Proverbs 4.23

As a teenager, a young athlete attended a sports banquet with his mother. When he had finished his meal, he looked around at other people’s plates and asked, “Why didn’t those other people eat their potato skins?” She replied, “Mike, that’s paper!”

It is easy to go along in life absorbing everything in front of us without thinking. Take television, for example. Do you ever mindlessly watch whatever is on, not even thinking that the content may be unwholesome? Or movies, do you take the time to research the film before you go? The Bible says that we need to keep our hearts with all diligence to be alert. Stay away from bad stuff; it will hurt you and others. You will find yourself saying things that you would not normally say.

We need to manage our lives and not allow the media to feed us mental junk food. We are designated caretakers of our minds and bodies. We need to manage our intake and be alert to those who would make us think that right is wrong and wrong is right. Like sheep, we may find ourselves in a long line heading straight to a cliff.

Pay attention to what your brain is absorbing. Make a decision today to consciously decide what you will and will not allow as nourishment and do not be afraid to express your opinion to those around you.
