Journey

Life is a journey. We travel on a road to destinations unknown to us. There are many forks in the road - blind curves, rough pavements, deep puddles to avoid. But there are no U-turns. There is no way, on this narrow road, to turn around and start the trip over again. We must keep trekking along.

We often find ourselves regretting foolish past decisions. Would we have acquired more money had we another career? What if a different location had been chosen - staying in a small town might have been better than moving to a big city. On and on the “what ifs” shower us with worries and concerns, all for naught. These questions will never be answered, for we cannot reconstruct the past. The journey through life provides no way of turning back the clock.

We can find consolation by recalling past mistakes that were forgiven or rectified, disappointments that created advantageous situations, all reminding us that we are not making this journey through life alone. God is walking with us. He is our shepherd and we are the sheep.

God provides guidelines to help us along the way. He advises us to love one another, to forgive those who have wronged us, to keep the Sabbath Day holy, to honor our parents, to treat others as we want to be treated., not to worry about tomorrow, and above all, to seek His Kingdom first. God has given us a precious gift. The gift is the Power of Choice. He leaves it to us to use this gift wisely, for a successful journey will depend upon our choices.

We were not promised a rose garden, nor were we ever told that the journey would be without ups and downs, but then we hear the still small voice of God saying, “Remember, I am with you always, even to the end of the age,” then we know for certain that we will never walk alone.
